25 Apr Acuvue Transitions
Built for the modern and active lifestyle, Acuvue Transitions are contact lenses that provide wearers with vision correction and a dynamic photochromic filter that helps to continuously balance the amount of light entering the eye. Not only do Acuvue Transitions reduce exposure to bright light indoors and outdoors, they also filter blue light and block UV rays. Both of which have an impact on eye comfort, vision, and health.
Imagine never having to shield your eyes from the sunlight, or feel the strain of eight-plus hours working under florescent bulbs. This is the allure of these light-sensitive, vision correcting contact lenses. Acuvue Transitions are the only contact lenses that seamlessly adapt to changing light. They help eyes recover from bright light up to five seconds faster. And, they reduce halos and starbursts at night. This means the contact lens wearer will enjoy clear vision, and less squinting, from dusk to dawn.

If you wear eyeglasses, you are no stranger to photochromic lenses. In fact, photochromic lenses or transition lenses have been used in eyeglasses for years. Photochromic lenses are eyeglass lenses that are clear indoors and darken automatically when exposed to sunlight. It is the option most people choose when trying to decide on buying a pair of prescription sunglasses in addition to their eyeglasses or simply buying a pair with transition lenses. Photochromic lens molecules make light, dark, and every shade in between possible.
Thanks to an intelligent invention, this same technology is now available to contact lens wearers. But, there are two major differences. For one thing, the new Acuvue Transitions are contact lenses that activate in indoor light and outdoors light. Whereas, transition lenses for your eyeglasses activate in the sunlight. Furthermore, where photochromic lenses for eyeglasses can be used as sunglasses; Acuvue Transitions are not a replacement for sunglasses. However, they can be used with non-prescription sunglasses.
Acuvue Transitions is a lens that is always on.
Light Intelligent Technology
Light intelligent technology is what makes Acuvue Transitions adapt to changing light conditions. By taking the ACUVUE OASYS materials and incorporating trillions of photochromic molecules by permanently bonding them to the lens matrix, Johnson & Johnson Vision Care created an entirely new contact lens category. One that balances the amount of visible light entering the eye providing a better experience in a variety of conditions: indoor, outdoor, cloudy, or sunny.
How Light Intelligent Technology Works
When the new contact lens is exposed to UV or high-energy visible light, it causes a chemical reaction. As a result, the molecules change their structure thus allowing them to dynamically absorb visible light. And, when the UV or high-energy light is removed, most of the photochromic molecules return to their original state, while some remain active to continue filtering light. While the process is very complex, it is quick and consistent regardless of the environment. That’s because the technology is optimized to work at the temperature of the eye surface.
